Urne / Announce Thunderous New Album Of Grim Realities And Heavy Metal Fury

Deepened Metal invigorators, Urne, release their second studio album, A Feast On Sorrow, on 11 August 2023 via Candlelight Records. Marked as a deeply personal record, the trio, fronted by Joe Nally, will take their listeners down a road of grim reality set to the tone of thunderous riffs and howling screams.

Be prepared for the inevitabilities of disease, dementia and deterioration in old age felt astutely by Nally and his heavy metal comrades. Guitarist Angus Neyra and recently-recruited drummer James Cook join Nally at the helm of this damningly rousing ship.

After the release of their debut album Serpent & Spirit, Urne were directly contacted by the frontman of metal giants Gojira, Joe Duplantier, who offered them the opportunity to record with him. The band headed to his Silver Chord Studio in Brooklyn, New York, where they lay down the material for A Feast On Sorrow.

Speaking of the recording process, Nally opened up to the creative process. “We had many ups and downs throughout this process, but the end result is something the three of us are extremely proud of. Having the honour to travel to New York to work alongside Joe Duplantier and Johann Meyer on this record is something we didn’t think would be possible and, on top of that, to have Ted Jensen master this record has been an experience we once dreamed of.”

“This whole album is extremely personal for me. It’s made me grow as a person and has also helped me understand the grieving process better than before. This isn’t a joyful or uplifting record, it’s very raw and real, and when the opportunity to work with Joe came to be, we all knew he was the perfect person to capture the message of this record.”

It is often said from artistic pain can come beauty, and even more so within a banquet of Metal meticulous. A Feast On Sorrow is set to bring about those feelings of intimate confrontation in the most divulging ways.

“Losing people is a horrible thing,” Nally concluded. “When the reality hits, it shocks. I was full of pent-up emotion – anger, confusion – and I could only seem to release that through aggression. The personal story I’m telling in this album is still ongoing, but it feels like I’ve been able to say what I needed to say.”
