The Pineapple Thief will release the recording of the April live stream event Nothing But The Truth via Kscope on 22 October. The show was a special online show to make up for their tour cancellation due to “that pandemic.”
The band has also announced their US and Canada tour in spring 2022, with the preceding UK and European tour beginning in October 2021.
Bruce Soord previously told MetalTalk how the band were disappointed to be unable to tour and explained how the live show was “invaluable” to them.
Now, as they look back on the performance, Bruce sits proud of the achievement, and the band have worked to deliver a “special souvenir” of the experience.
“It was such an alien time and an alien thing to do,” Bruce told MetalTalk. “Yes, we had all performed in front of cameras before, but this was different. We were playing a brand-new set, one time only, to stream to every corner of the globe, standing in a circle on our little islands with cameras everywhere. The pressure was on. We simply had to nail it.”
Their aim of producing something spectacular and cinematic was certainly achieved. “We wanted something special, something cinematic, so we created something unique and something very, very special that I am proud to have been a part of,” Bruce says.
“I can’t wait for people to see and hear it. It really is the icing on the cake to see our show released in a physical format. For the first time, we have included a Dolby Atmos immersive mix on the blu-ray as well as DTS-HD 5.1 and high-definition stereo. The deluxe edition is wonderful, and I, for one, will give it pride of place in my collection. A special souvenir of a special day.”
One precious day
The band has released Our Mire, taken from the live show, and Bruce explained how he saw it nailed on for a live set inclusion once the song had been written. “I remember when we wrote Our Mire, I was thinking how I couldn’t wait to play this one live,” he told us. “Sadly, the live shows went AWOL, so it was a great feeling to be able to play this together, even if it was for one precious day.
“We talk about how this song came together on the upcoming Blu-ray. Listening to it now, this reminds me how much of a collaboration the process was. Gavin and I constructed the song, Gavin pushing me in different directions I wouldn’t have dreamed of myself. And with the addition of Jon and Steve’s parts, it became a classic TPT production. I’m very proud of it.”
Nothing But The Truth can be pre-ordered from tpt.lnk.to/NothingButTheTruth.
The UK and European tour starts at Dublin’s Button Factory on 5 October 2021. The 8 October show at Bristol’s SWX is moved to the O2 Academy on 5 November. Original tickets are valid for the new date and venue.
The band is looking forward to returning to North American shores, with the opening concert set for The Plaza Live, Orlando, on 29 April 2022. “We toured North America for the first time in 2019,” Bruce says, “and I seem to recall that at the end of every show, I told the crowd ‘we’ll be back’.
“And here we are. To play in North America is a rare privilege for European bands, so to make our return is a great feeling. The atmosphere there is electric. We are playing in a bunch of new places a lot of people shouted for when we missed them last time, like Texas.
“North America was also where Gavin was given his ‘bell’ by a fan, which he went on to enjoy hitting live on stage every time I made a minor fluff, obviously an extremely rare occasion. No doubt it will be making an appearance on our return.”
Tickets go on general sale on Friday 27th August at 12pm EDT. For early release tickets, fans can sign up to the bands mailing list.
