Klaus Meine / New Scorpions album Rock Believer “sees us return to our roots”

Scorpions will release their new album Rock Believer on 25 February 2022. Klaus Meine describes the new material as a return to the band’s roots, delving into the original Scorpion DNA. The title track, with an accompanying video, will premiere on 18 January 2022.

“Over the years, we’ve heard people say lots of times that rock is dead,” Klaus Meine told MetalTalk. “But there are still millions of rock believers out there all over the world that prove them wrong. Our fans are the best in the world.

“We’ll see you someday somewhere out there, because we’re Rock Believers just like you.”

Rock Believer was written by the band, with lyrics by Klaus, and is in the style of their ’80s sound.

“The new material sees us return to our roots,” Klaus says. “We simply wanted to reactivate the original Scorpions DNA – great riffs, strong melodies. We tried to transport that live feel to the studio, with all five of us playing in one room again at last. Having Mikkey Dee in the band is like a shot of fresh energy and real fun.”

Covid-19 cancelled Scorpions plans to record in America. “We had already started to talk about a new album back in 2018,” Rudolf Schenker said. A studio had been hired in Los Angeles, so the project relocated to Germany. “In a way,” says Matthias Jabs, “the situation was a blessing in disguise for us.”

Three Scorpions live close to the legendary Peppermint Park Studios in Hanover. Once travel restrictions were relaxed, Pawel Maciwoda joined from Poland, and Mikkey Dee arrived from Sweden.

“Everything suddenly felt like it had back in the 1980s,” Matthias Jabs said, “when the five of us rocked together, hanging out at the corner pub in the evenings and talking about our music.”

The cover has been designed by Klaus Voormann, who designed the Beatles album Revolver and also won the Best Record Cover award at the 1966 Grammys.

In March and April 2022, the band are set to perform at the Planet Hollywood Resorts & Casino in Las Vegas as part of their residency, followed by a European tour scheduled to kick off with a number of shows in Germany in June 2022.
