Jack J Hutchinson works with Kevin Shirley on new EP

Jack J Hutchinson will release his EP/DVD package, What Doesn’t Kill You, on 2 September 2022 and, as well as some festival shows, will tour the UK towards the end of 2022.

The EP was mixed by legendary producer Kevin Shirley and is a follow-up to The Hammer Falls, Hutchinson’s critically acclaimed album released earlier in the year.

“To be given the opportunity to work with Kevin Shirley was a dream come true,” Hutchinson said. “He’s produced some of my favourite artists, including Led Zeppelin, Iron Maiden and The Black Crowes, so I jumped at the chance.”

The EP contains the new song Days Of Thunder. “We recorded the new song in the midst of my recent UK Tour,” Jack says, “so me and the band were cooking from being back on the road. Kevin gave the tracks a new sense of energy and power and I’m super pleased with the results of our collaboration.”

The new single What Doesn’t Kill You (Only Makes You Stronger) has already been released with an accompanying video by Neil Collins Films. “Shooting in the bowels of the Old Bridewell Police station in Bristol was cool,” Jack says. “Local legend has it that it’s haunted. It was a lot of fun filming down in the cells, unlike anything I’ve done before. Thankfully they let us out at the end of the day, but it was close.”

The bonus DVD features behind-the-scenes footage, plus six music videos from The Hammer Falls. “It was fun watching the studio footage back and picking out what to put in,” Jack says. “It really captures the nuts and bolts of the songwriting process, and how some of these songs came together. The DVD acts as a really cool companion piece to the new EP and also the album prior.”

Hutchinson is currently playing his first solo shows in the USA at the NAMM festival in Southern California and will return to this side of the pond to play festival and shows across the UK with Phil Wilson (Sari Schorr, Bernie Marsden) on drums and Charlie Rachael Kay (Ashley Sherlock) on bass.
