Hellfest 2023 / The truth about fame with Electric Callboy

Hellfest 2023. Electric Callboy, who will released the single Everytime We Touch (TEKKNO Version) at 5 PM BST today, spoke with MetalTalk in the press tent at this year’s Hellfest prior to their buzzing set. The new song comes with an impressive music video shot at Castle Rothestein.

In 2021 the band submitted Pump It to the German selection team for the Eurovision Song Contest, but they soon shut down any talk of a Euro redo. “It was fun and spontaneous to do once,” the band said, “but that is firmly a one-and-done situation.”

Everytime We Touch is their version of a Cascada hit in 2006. Electric Callboy said they are huge fans of Papa Roach, and if anyone were to cover one of their songs, they would want it to be them. “We would love nothing more than to see Jacoby in one of our wigs.”

All bands start somewhere. Electric Callboy played to a room of fewer than 20 people in the past, so their message to those trying to make it was more honest than most. “Not only is it, love what you do, have passion and believe in yourself, we believe that it also comes down to a little bit of luck too. Being in the right place at the right time.” The band said they have other friends working just as hard with all the passion, but it doesn’t always work out.

They touched on social media being such a huge reach for them and others that was not there before. “It’s the future, the way forward to progress, and so important to keep up to date,” they said. “That’s why we have to consider potential videos and the live aspect when creating songs and music.”

They are human, just like us having to deal with injuries, as the show must go on! Nico spoke about how he suffers from severe inner ear and jaw infections that won’t heal, which makes wearing inner ear monitors impossible. Their way around this is rocking the headphone look, and the rest of the band shows their love and support for him with this.

The band say they are more focused on enjoying the now than what is next for them. As their fame has grown, they honestly tell of the struggles of touring. The further away from home, the more expensive it is to bring all of their gear and equipment. More importantly, a few of them are “daddies” now, so they want to be with their families more, which is another reason they love the festival season as it centres around their home, Germany.

But it is their favourite time. That’s why they’re so happy to return to Hellfest, seeing their progression, with more fans showing up “even wet as shit.” (A subtle hint to me as I was drenched!).

All Electric Callboy’s hard work and efforts are not going unnoticed. They promised, as they left, to turn up the bass in hopes of pushing the Hellfest rain away.

True to their word, Electric Callboy stopped the rain. You sensed that standing still for the duration of their set is prohibited. Electric Callboy dropped Hellfest’s biggest party of the weekend.

With hilarious crowd participation, wigs, workouts, dancing, singing, and screaming, what festival party would be complete without steamer canons firing into the crowd? It was just what everyone needed a mix-up of music.

They well and truly dried us off. The crowd was absolutely buzzing with adrenaline and laughter. We couldn’t help but look at the strangers around us, dance and laugh our socks off.

Literally, some were now barefoot, having tossed flip-flops into the pits. Electric Callboy showed exactly what they stand for. It doesn’t matter the genre. It’s about music bringing people together, having fun, uniting us! They definitely had us all Hypa Hypa!
