Bloodstock Festival 2024 – Friday. Opening proceedings in the Sophie tent on Friday morning are South Wales trio, Häxan. From their setup and sound, as well as their logo there is more than a hint to Motörhead. If you are going to wear your colours on your sleeves, then let’s be honest, there are no better Heavy Metal role models to take from.
Häxan – Bloodstock Festival 2024
Catton Park, Derbyshire – Friday 9 August 2024
Featuring Sam Bolderson on vocals and guitar, Harriet Wadeson on bass and Jess Hartley on drums, Häxan woke the early morning Bloodstockers with a short thirty-minute set.
Subsequently, the girls had to come out firing on all cylinders, and fair play to them, they roared out of the blocks, providing a punchy, energetic set. More hard rock than Metal, the songs hit the audience with a cerebral punch, and the hard-hitting riffs and catchy chorus lines were exactly what was required and certainly provided the perfect start to the day.
With the track list hailing from 2020’s debut album, White Noise, it was a perfect introduction to the band for those first-timers.
Sam prowled the stage and provided rapid-fire vocals and riffs. Backed by Harriet’s rumbling bass and Jess providing a blitzkrieg on drums, they roared through their set.
Single Skeletons was a particular favourite and a perfect indication of what the girls are all about. They are not here to make up the numbers. There is a defined intent in their songwriting ability and delivery. These are girls who mean business.
Killing Time was a perfect slice of hard rock mayhem, and Black Sheep showed that they could twist a lyric and bring the darkness to bear.
On this performance, quite simply bring it on. The future is very bright.
Bloodstock 2024 will be held over the long weekend of 8-11 August 2024. MetalTalk’s Paul Hutchings, Adrian Stonley, Paul Monkhouse and Keith Conlin will be reporting from Catton Park.
