Black Country Communion Bring Rare Firepower To Hellfest 2025

Hellfest 2025, Clisson, France. Into supergroups? Well, we have the rare occasion of seeing Black Country Communion at this year’s Hellfest.

For some reason, Black Country Communion rarely tour. Possibly because Glenn Hughes, Joe Bonamassa, Derek Sherinian and Jason Bonham [with a picture of his father on the bass drum] might have other endeavours taking up their time.

They do rise to the moment, despite the sound not being as good as for other bands at Hellfest at the beginning. It improves as the set continues. Even like that, the musicianship on the show is impressive.

Glenn Hughes’ pipes are easily comparable to the ones of a man half his age. Not to mention his bass playing. Amazing. This is impressive, and I find rock guitarist Joe Bonamassa completely different from solo Bonamassa.

On songs like The Outsider, the interplay between him and Sherinian’s keyboards, supported by what is one of the best rhythm sections money can buy, is just fantastic.

Red Sun sounds fantastic, despite the title sounding a bit ironic in the context. Later in the set, the funk Stay Free truly shows off that rhythm section.

To end it properly, we are treated to an emphatic version of their signature track, Black Country. This is one of those bands that show everyone how it is done.

Hopefully, this tour will be a full return for Black Country Communion rather than another sporadic appearance.
