The pioneering rock and Heavy Metal journalist Malcolm Dome has passed away aged 66.

Since 1976, Dome has been an author and writer for publications including Record Mirror, Kerrang!, Metal Hammer and Classic Rock and co-founded the UK’s first rock radio station, TotalRock, with Friday Rock Show DJ Tommy Vance and producer Tony Wilson.

Dome is credited with the term “thrash Metal” when referring to the Anthrax song Metal Thrashing Mad in Kerrang!

“Malcolm was a great friend to me from the very first time I met him as a writer just starting out, as he was for many other writers as well,” said Prog Editor Jerry Ewing. “The word legend gets bandied around far too often these days, but Malcolm most certainly was. He had an encyclopaedic knowledge about music and was one of the most genuinely widely loved and respected men I know. I will miss him terribly.”

Tony Wilson of TotalRock said, “Malcolm was a key part of TotalRock, joining us before we were even called TotalRock. He was part of our DNA, and his absence among us will leave a void that no other can fill.”
