KISS / From Poughkeepsie, the only Mark St. John soundboard recording

KISS will release the next part of their Off The Soundboard official live bootleg series with the show from Poughkeepsie, New York, recorded at Mid-Hudson Arena on 28 November 1984, during the Animalize World Tour. This next package will be released on 7 April 2023.

This show, their fifth authorized Soundboard live release, is the only known soundboard recording with guitarist Mark St. John making it a recording of historical importance.

The tracks Young And Wasted and Rock And Roll All Nite from this historic show are incomplete due to a tape change and tape space. The recordings were originally for archival use only.

Recorded in the middle of the US leg of their successful Animalize World Tour with the short-lived lineup of Paul Stanley, Gene Simmons, Eric Carr, and guitarist Mark St. John, the career-spanning 18-song set includes current-era KISS tracks such as Creatures Of The Night, I Love It Loud, Lick It Up, and 1984s Heaven’s On Fire, as well as perennial KISS anthems Detroit Rock City, Love Gun, and Rock And Roll All Nite from their classic back catalogue.

The Poughkeepsie show will be available to stream and download, with a double LP standard black vinyl set, CD, and a limited edition double LP set pressed on 180g custard yellow vinyl. All are available to pre-order now exclusively through the Official KISS online store.

Mark St. John was hired as the band’s guitarist replacing Vinnie Vincent, following the conclusion of the Lick It Up tour in March 1984. A reactive arthritis condition took St. John out of action not long after he made his recorded debut with the Animalize album later that same year.

He played only two full shows and one partial show during the Animalize tour, with Bruce Kulick playing the rest and was officially replaced on 8 December 1984. St. John died in early April 2007, several months after being badly beaten during a brief stay in an Orange County jail.

  1. Mark Norton (St Jon)brought Kiss into the heavy metal world that had left Kiss behind, I’m sick of Gene and Paul bagging on Mark now that he’s dead with no way to defend himself Mark was a great guitar player if he was that bad why the hell did you let him in the band was he the only guitar player available in the United States I don’t think so animalize is one of the best selling albums of all time kiss history thanks to Mark and now you talk bad about him after he’s dead.

  2. I have no idea why Kiss are releasing these off the soundboard “bootlegs”. All they do is to show how bad they were live. Holy diver, they really and truly sucked, and it shows how much the Alive albums had to have been doctored before release.
