Faster Pussycat: Like A Ghost/Pirate Love (Golden Robot Records)

Release Date: 28 November 2022

Words: Lizzy Blayne Evans

Vocalist Taime Downe expressed his excitement, saying, “The band and I are over the moon to join the Golden Robot Records rock ‘n’ roll family! We are super excited to release some of our badass tunes globally. We know the label sees our vision and supports the band, and we feel completely at home here.”

Like A Ghost radiates sleazy energy and Faster Pussycat’s distinct sound from the opening riff. Taime’s signature vocals carry through the song, with guitarists Sam Bam Koltun and Ronnie Simmons bringing the aggressive guitars. Like A Ghost is nostalgic. The song is about growing up in the ’70s and the memories of being a kid.

The song sounds straight out of Faster Pussycat’s ’80s albums, which just makes the track more nostalgic. Listening to Faster Pussycat’s music is always fun. Like A Ghost is no different, and I’m sure this song will be on repeat for lots of fans.

I was just as excited to hear Pirate Love. Johnny Thunders is a hero to myself and punk fans everywhere, and Faster Pussycat’s version does not disappoint. After seeing them perform this song live on the Sonic Slam Tour this past summer, I’ve been looking forward to hearing their studio version.

Faster Pussycat puts their own sleazy twist on the cult classic with heavy riffs and Taime’s recognizable voice bringing new life to the song. The instrumentals nod to Thunders’ style but still have the Faster Pussycat sound we all know and love.

Both tracks are exciting, just what we would hope for new material from the band. Faster Pussycat is still rocking out and giving fans new tunes to blast alongside the old ones.

Australian fans are expected to hear the new songs on their upcoming Australian tour and will even have the chance to purchase exclusive 7″ coloured translucent blue vinyl of the songs. There will also be a limited number of stock online. Faster Pussycat headline Glam Fest 2023, starting in Brisbane on 25 January 2023.
