Bob Katsionis summons his inner Steve Harris as Stray Gods sign with ROAR!

Stray Gods is an international music project formed, during the quarantine period of 2021, with the idea of performing Heavy Metal in the style of Iron Maiden. The band have just signed with ROAR! Rock Of Angels Records.

A new album is on the horizon, with music written by Bob Katsionis (Warrior Path, Serious Black ex-Firewind, Outloud) and lyrics written by Vangelis Tsintziras and Bob Katsionis.

“Stray Gods is a project that started as a lightning bolt of inspiration somewhere around May 2021,” Bob Katsionis told MetalTalk. “I had just bought a new Jazz-Bass instrument and played an Iron Maiden-Esque riff on it to check how it sounds.

“And there it was, six days later, I had composed an album’s worth of music powered by my great love for the greatest Metal band on Earth.

“I didn’t try to copy anything. I just wrote some music as if I were a member of Iron Maiden, but back in the glorious ’80s, blended with my aspect of melodies and rhythm.

“The first person I contacted was Dan Baune of Monument/Lost Sanctuary to play some additional solos, who also suggested Artur Almeida of Attik Demons for the vocals.

“For the crucial position of the bass guitar, I chose Gus Macricostas (Biff Byford Band), who is a huge Steve Harris fan and a great guy as well.

“Thanos Pappas (Scar Of The Sun) on drums was also an obvious choice since we are bandmates in Outload, and he has his own Bruce Dickinson Tribute band.

“One month later, everything was completed, and that’s when I was approached by ROAR! Records for the release of our debut album, while I’m already working on its successor.

“Whether you are an Iron Maiden fan or not, I think this is a very sincere and inspired Heavy Metal album that will take you back to the good old times but always with a fresh look.”
