Black Sabbath / Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules get deluxe releases

Ronnie James Dio joined Black Sabbath in 1979, and two classic albums followed. Heaven And Hell and Mob Rules will be released in deluxe boxset format on 4 November and 18 November, respectively. Both albums have been newly remastered, and the set includes rare and unreleased music.

Quickly forming kindred spirits in guitarist Tony Iommi, bassist Geezer Butler, and drummer Bill Ward, the Ronnie James Dio fronted Black Sabbath released Heaven And Hell in April 1980. The album marked a return to form for the band, reached number 9 in the UK and 28 in the US, and was certified platinum.

The deluxe edition includes versions of Children Of The Sea and Die Young recorded live in 1980 in Hartford, CT.

Sabbath returned to the studio in 1981 to record Mob Rules, with Ward replaced by Vinny Appice. Mob Rules was released in October of that year and was certified gold.

The deluxe edition features additional tracks from Live At Hammersmith Odeon and an entire concert recorded in 1982 in Portland, OR.

Ronnie James Dio passed away on 16 May 2010. Iommi, Butler, Dio and Appice would release the album The Devil You Know in 2009 and on the subsequent tour, Ronnie’s health began to deteriorate. As Tony Iommi told MetalTalk at the London Premiere of the documentary film DIO: Dreamers Never Die, Tony and Ronnie had agreed to make another album before Dio’s tragic death.
