12th May 2017

Edition forty six of Cum On Feel The Newz.

Forty six minutes is a really good length for an album. It may have started as the optimum size for a single vinyl release, but this is a convention worth continuing into the digital age and beyond. Perfectly formed, all killer, no filler, that's what we like.

Let's do this...

Ty Arthur
Walkway
Ex People
Dirty Machine
Bubbles Erotica
See This Through
Serpent Lord
A Thousand Horses
Blind Guardian
Greywind
Kaledon
Dead Crows
Lola Black
Overkill

There's some big news today for Blind Guardian: the progressive power Metal pioneers are proud to announce the release of a new 3-CD package/4-LP package entitled, 'Live Beyond The Spheres'. The release will include material recorded from various shows during their European tour in 2015 – it will contain old classics, new tracks as well as songs that are played very rarely live.

Vocalist Hansi Kürsch speaks about the difficulties in creating such an ambitious album: "In general I would say that we've had a really good run throughout this tour and that nearly every show was perfect. But at the end of the day, after every one of us had checked through every single song and concert of those 30 shows again and again, there was only something like two or three versions of each song that were suitable to be used for an album. We then had to decide between those final versions; which one the most impressive one was. This was a nearly endless task!

"The final songs chosen contain such an energy, that tiny mistakes appeared to be completely unimportant. As soon as you listen to the songs, you will know what I mean, they feel completely alive. There is always something happening at each show, let's call it 'MAGIC', that gives us all a shiver up our spine. We are really satisfied when people sing with us, have a good time and go back home happy."

'Live Beyond The Spheres' is scheduled to be released on July 7th via Nuclear Blast as a 3-CD and 4-LP Box.

Following his debut sci-fi novella 'Empty' from 2016, Heavy Metal scribe Ty Arthur returns with new full-length horror novel 'Light Dawning'. Pivoting away from the emptiness of space, the book dives headlong into the waters of fantasy, but with a seriously grimdark twist. This next foray into the bleaker corners of human existence is officially slated for release on Friday, May 26th, 2017. Kindle pre-orders are now online.

Like its predecessor, the creation of 'Light Dawning' was driven forward by the power of music, with special thanks in particular due to UK avant-garde Black Metal group Code, Norwegian musical enigma Ihsahn, and Chilean prog rock group Bauda. To get an advance preview of the themes and tone of the novel, a music playlist matching several scenes can be heard via Spotify and below.

"As with all my work, this story is inspired by a real life experience translated into a fictional setting, and completing this book took a lot out of me," Arthur said of the upcoming release. "Its set in an unquestionably fantasy universe, but don't expect any elves or farm boy chosen ones saving the world. My take on the genre draws more from cosmic dread and the horror of war than anything with unlikely heroes or lovable rogues. Don't expect any happy endings."

Up and coming British rockers Walkway have announced their debut Scottish headline shows. The quartet who hail from Diss in Norfolk have lined up a date at Bannerman's in Edinburgh on Saturday 15th July while the very next day sees the band roll up at Ivory Blacks in Glasgow. Between now and then the band have a full schedule so see local press or the official Walkway website to see if they're playing near you

Earlier this year the band collaborated with original Status Quo drummer John Coghlan on an impressive cover of the Quo classic, 'Rain' as a tribute to fallen Quo guitarist and the band are well into production of their third album.

The as yet untitled album will be mastered at the world-famous Abbey Road Studios in London in June and the process will be handled by Sean Magee who won a Grammy for his work on the 2009 Beatles albums remasters, as well as working with legends such as Pink Floyd, Deep Purple, John Lennon, Duke Ellington, Nina Simone, U2, Tina Turner, The Sex Pistols and Public Image Limited.

Chicago based alternative rock band Bubbles Erotica are ready to re-ignite the flames of the '90s alternative rock revolution with their debut, self-titled album, which is out now.

Drawing from such diverse influences as System Of A Down, Nirvana, and Queens Of The Stone Age, the quartet's sound is quickly gaining momentum with broadly glowing reviews.

The band's newest single, 'Cloak and Dagger' is the epitome of Alternative Rock - the alternative to radio, to mainstream, and the repetitive - harnessing the innovative creativity and passion that the music industry needs.

Latest signings to London label New Heavy Sounds (Black Moth, Limb, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard), stoner sludge four-piece Ex People have shared the 2nd track from their upcoming debut album 'Bird' set for release on 19th May.

'Not A Drill' is the opener to the record and is described by the band as a track which, "veers from noise rock to doom and all points in-between, but this track kicks things off on the more stoner rock end of the spectrum. The world seems like it is in a really uncertain place right now and lyrically this track is about trying to stand up and organise. The final third features an avalanche of fuzz and wah pedal to give you that warm, happy glow inside."

Emerging from the London DIY scene, vocalist Laura and drummer Vicki first met playing in series of riot grrrl and noise bands, before forming Ex People in 2015 with guitarist Calum and bassist Ed. Since then, the quartet have gone on to share stages with Palehorse, Lower Slaughter, Torpor, and Church of the Cosmic Skull.

Rock quartet See This Through are releasing their new music video titled 'On My Own'. The new emotional, heart-felt video comes from the outfit's title track, from their 2016 debut EP and the song describes a dark time in vocalist Nick Blohm's life:

"'On My Own' contains the most honest lyrics that I've ever written. It's a result of many life-changing events and it took a long time for me to sort my thoughts to deal with all that happened. The song is incredibly personal for me. We all shared a vision for the video, as it's just as personal for everyone in the band as it is for me. It needed to be dark and full of emotion. It needed to be a bit claustrophobic. It needed to tell a story, just like the song. I think we accomplished that."

See This Through will be opening up for Seether, Skillet, All That Remains, Puddle of Mudd, and Otherwise on Sunday 11th June at The Bear's Big Growl in South Bend, Indiana. You can also purchase their 'On My Own' EP on iTunes.

Alternative Metal Band Dirty machine has released the official video for the title track of their upcoming debut album, 'Discord', which will be released on Friday 26th May 26 via Zombie Shark Records.

The album was produced by Ben Jovi and Dirty Machine at Left Coast Label Studios while the promo video was produced by Ron Thunderwood from 9Electric, who has directed music videos for Hollywood Undead, Combichrist, and Stitched up Heart.

Frontman David Leach told us: "We are excited to be joining forces with Zombie Shark Records, a record label whose mission is to bring back the genre that Dirty Machine themselves and so many millions of other fans around the world live for - nu Metal. With our debut album recorded, Dirty Machine and Zombie Shark Records teaming up guarantees the resurgence that the world has been waiting for!"

Hailing from Denver, Colorado hard rockers Lola Black have released the teaser for their upcoming full length album, by way of an official video for their Bob Marlette produced, new single, 'Dead To Me'. With footage from Higher Elevation Rock Festival and KBPI Car Show last summer, the video was produced by Negative4 Productions.

The band have also recently re-released their EP 'Till Death Do Us Part' through The Label Group via iTunes and all other online retailers. Lola Black has kicked and clawed her way to the forefront of female fronted Hard Rock acts and is poised for world domination. She and her eponymous group of rock and roll madmen have decimated their hometown taking in pretty much every award they have been up for including 3 Westword Music Awards landing them in alumni status, 106.7 KBPI's Best Band in Denver and CBS Denver Top 5 break out acts.

The band have also performed at Denver's largest venues including The Pepsi Center, Fillmore Auditorium, Fiddler's Green Amphitheater and The First Bank Center.

Legendary New Jersey thrashers, Overkill, have kept the machine running strong in 2017 with the release of their highly-acclaimed eighteenth album, 'The Grinding Wheel', as well as adding another US tour under their belts. Today, the band welcomes another addition to their history with their new drummer, Jason "Sticks" Bittner (Shadows Fall, Flotsam And Jetsam).

"Overkill would like to announce its newest member, behind the kit and steering the ship, Jason "Sticks" Bittner," Bobby "Blitz" Ellsworth told us. "We wholeheartedly would like to thank Eddy 'The Mexicutioner' Garcia for holding down the ship and keeping the momentum up for the band over this past year plus.

"Eddy has and always will be part of the Overkill machine. Jason is a long-time friend of the band and his abilities have always spoken for themselves. Let the touring continue... onward-upwards!"

Jason added: "When my phone rang about 2 months ago and Blitz said 'Hey, me and DD are wondering if you would be interested in joining?' It really didn't take much for me to write back a one word answer... ABSOLUTELY! I am extremely excited to be a part, once again, of thrash Metal history, and I cannot wait to get out on the road and wreck stages across the world with the 'Mean Green Killing Machine!'"

Reef guitarist Kenwyn House and his new psychedelic rock outfit Goldray have released their new video for 'Rising', the title track of their highly anticipated and critically acclaimed debut album, out now.

Recorded at various studios including Metropolis, The Granary and RAK Studios, the album has been produced jointly by Kenwyn House and vocalist Leah Rasmussen and co-produced by Clive Martin (the acclaimed knob-twiddler behind Reef's huge debut 'Replenish'), with Brit Award-winning producer Pedro Ferreira adding his magic touch to the final mixes.

'Rising' was released on May 5th in Vinyl LP, CD and Digital formats via their own label Akashic Records, with worldwide distribution through Cargo Records. Goldray are on tour in the UK now.

A Thousand Horses are back with their highly anticipated second album 'Bridges', which will be out June 2nd on BMLG Records.

The 13-song project features their current single 'Preachin' To The Choir', which the band have recently unveiled the lyric for as well as a live acoustic version of the critically acclaimed track.

Produced by Corey Crowder, Dann Huff and the band themselves, 'Bridges' highlights the perfect mix of their signature rock-infused country sound with tracks like 'Burn Like Willie' and familiar gospel influences on 'One Man Army'. All four A Thousand Horses members contributed in writing this album alongside some of their accomplished peers.

Serpent Lord are a Heavy Metal band from Thessaloniki, Greece, formed in January 2016 by George Savvage (guitar/vocals), Konstantinos Sotirelis (bass/back vocals) and Giorgos Terzitanos (lead guitar/back vocals).

They have just released their first promo/demo CD which includes the songs 'Sacrilegium' and 'Blood Offering', while they finish composing their debut album, and they will start the pre-production during the summer. The recordings of the demo took pace at Infected Studios with producer George Infected.

The band have a show in Thessaloniki on May 13th, supporting the legendary band Omen, where copies of the CD will be officially launched.

Greywind have revealed a new video for 'Safe Haven', a track taken from their debut album, 'Afterthoughts'.

The band told us: "Exactly a year ago we played our first ever live shows, so for this video we wanted to show our journey as a band since then. From playing shows with the likes of Thrice and Moose Blood, playing Reading & Leeds Festival to selling out our debut headline show in London earlier this year. It's been a really exciting first proper year for us as a band and we can't wait for the rest of 2017."

Amsterdam-based Metal band, Seita have released the single and video for 'Call It Evolution, available in digital format only on the main music online platforms.

The track is a chaotic snapshot of mankind's often contradictory and self-destructive path towards so-called progress. Raw, intense, and unapologetic: the band's sonic assault pushes boundaries, while remaining true to its roots in aggressive and brutal music.

Their focus is more on the discovery of different musical landscapes, as a means to express their message, rather than self- identifying with a specific sub-genre or trend. "The ones that pull the trigger must be ready to die..."

Italian Power Metallers Kaledon have unleashed the official video for 'The Evil Witch', taken from the forthcoming album 'Carnagus - Emperor Of The Darkness' out om May 25th.

The video was filmed near the city of Rimini, by famous video director Matteo Ermeti and is set in the year 1376. The lyrics talk about the evil witch Elisabeth, the future wife of king Antillius, after her return to the good.

A few weeks after its limited release, the debut and self-titled full-length album by the French hard'n'roll power-trio Dead Crows (with members of Nightmare) is out now worldwide for Digital through Wake Up Dead Records.

In addition to the official release-news, the band have also shared the official music video for the song 'Wild Gun's Soul'.

After a long trip around the globe with their Heavy Metal band Nightmare, Matt "Dynamite" Berg, Oliver "Piv" Casu and Rudy "Fat Bass" Berg mmake a power trio, a rollercoaster influenced by Motörhead, Elvis Presley, Social Distortion and Thin Lizzy - that band is made for you, whether you are 1 or 100.
