Now in its fifth edition, the annual Classic Rock and Heavy Metal festival Brofest is gearing up for a return to Newcastle Upon Tyne on the 24th and 25th February 2017.

Rocking the stage at Northumbria University over the course of the weekend will be a host of top bands from today's thriving Rock and Metal scene, along with a few surprises, many cult favourites, and some rare and one-off shows. Once again the hordes of denim and leather-clad fans from all over the world will return to celebrate this extraordinary event in the north-east.

Headlining the Friday evening at Brofest #5 will be Graham Oliver and Steve Dawson from the original line-up of Saxon, treating fans to a critically acclaimed live show that will showcase all the band's classic anthems. Friday night's line-up also features a very rare show from local legends Battleaxe. Joining them will be South Shields heroes Mythra, now reunited after almost thirty years, playing shows all over Europe and with an exciting new album, 'Still Burning', due for release this year.

Saturday at Brofest #5 is similarly packed full of must-see bands. Demon and Tokyo Blade are household names among NWOBHM fans nowadays, and yet this will be their first ever show in Newcastle. Traditionally the Brofest bill features some top international bands and this year is no exception, with the USA's High Spirits being one of the most entertaining up-and-coming rock bands. They'll be joined by fellow countrymen Ghoul, whose unique brand of 'splatterthrash' will appeal to fans of the heavier end of the Metal spectrum.

In previous years, Brofest has seen devotees coming all the way from the USA, Mexico, Japan, South America and beyond to witness some of the very special reunion shows prepared for the fans. A lot of bands around during the heyday of the NWOBHM in the early 80s, for whatever reason didn't quite get the exposure they deserved and eventually disappeared into obscurity, only to achieve cult status as their records and tapes built notoriety and spread by word of mouth amongst fans.

Brofest specialises in showcasing these reunion shows that are a dream come true for the bands and fans alike. This year is no different with exciting reunion shows from cult underground bands Traitors Gate, Blackmayne and Stormtrooper.

This state-of-the-art venue will once again feature an extra floor with a lounge area, food court and merchandise market for this ever-growing live music extravaganza.
