JEFF LYNNE'S ELO STEPPING OUT FOR US, UK AND EUROPEAN SHOWS
19th November 2017
After the outstanding demand for live show tickets in 2016 and 2017, Jeff Lynne's ELO will play a raft of European and US dates in 2018.
Following triumphant performances in Oberhausen, Amsterdam and Zurich in 2016, as well as sold out UK arena tours in 2016 and 2017, Jeff Lynne's ELO will be returning to the US, the UK and Europe for an extended run of shows in 2018. These newly announced shows will see the legendary band play nineteen dates across two continents through August, September and October.
The current band's first proper US tour (aside from a handful of dates at the Hollywood Bowl and radio City Music Hall in New York in 2016), kicks off at the Oracle Centre in Oakland on Saturday 4th August before hitting Los Angeles, Houston, Dallas, Detroit, Toronto and finishing up in Philadelphia on Friday 24th August with a show at the Wells Fargo Centre.
From there, the band will head across the Atlantic for a show at the Ericsson Globe Arena, Stockholm on Wednesday 12th September before they travel to Oslo, Copenhagen, Hamburg, Berlin, Amsterdam and Vienna on their way to the UK to once again enthral audiences in Nottingham, Glasgow, Newcastle, Birmingham, Leeds and London. A full list of live dates can be seen below.
To tie in with the new tour dates, ELO's most recent release, titled 'Wembley Or Bust' was release in Friday, 17th November, and it's a special release commemorating the Wembley Stadium show and will be available digitally, or physically as a 2disc audio CD and a 3LP vinyl package.
There are also two Deluxe packages available – each including the 2 disc CD set, and the concert film on Standard DVD or Blu-Ray.
With the music produced by Jeff Lynne himself and the visuals directed by Paul Dugdale, the 'Wembley Or Bust' release showcases Jeff and his remarkable musical ensemble filling Wembley Stadium with one of the greatest rock'n'roll spectacles of all time, complete with bells, whistles and spaceships – all in front of a 60,000 capacity crowd. As Jeff says himself:
"It's the best time I ever had in music... it is beyond anything I could have imagined."
More popular than ever, Jeff Lynne's ELO have always been known for their epic live shows and with a distinct style that seamlessly and innovatively blends rock, pop and classical music.
The 'Wembley Or Bust' release includes performances of many of the most beloved songs of our lifetime, from vintage ELO classics like 'Mr Blue Sky', 'Livin' Thing' and 'Evil Woman' to 'Do Ya' from his days with The Move, 'Handle With Care' which he recorded with the Traveling Wilburys, right through to 'When I Was A Boy' from his latest ELO masterpiece, 'Alone In The Universe'.
Lynne is widely regarded as one of the greatest record producers in music history and in addition to his storied career in ELO, he was a co-founder and member of The Travelling Wilburys together with Bob Dylan, Roy Orbison, George Harrison and Tom Petty (who tragically died only a few weeks ago), as well as a producer and collaborator with some of the biggest names in music including The Beatles, Paul McCartney, Ringo Starr, Joe Walsh, and most recently, Bryan Adams.
There has been a resurgence in the popularity of Lynne's work with ELO since he headlined the BBC Radio 2 Festival In A Day at Hyde Park back in 2014, which was followed up by the 'Alone In The Universe' album which was released in November 2015 and achieved a Platinum sales award (300,000 copies) before the year was out.
In June 2016, Lynne and his touring band appeared in the legendary Sunday teatime slot for the Glastonbury Festival and they will headed over to the US in September for a handful of live dates in Los Angeles and New York. After the Glastonbury performance Lynne was presented with a sales award for the compilation release, 'All Over The World - The Very Best Of Electric Light Orchestra', which had broken the one million sales barrier.
The Songwriters Hall Of Fame also elected Lynne for induction at its annual induction and awards gala in New York City earlier this year and his home city of Birmingham have also recently honoured him with the Lord Mayor's Awards, as have the UK music therapy charity Nordoff Robbins with their Silver Clef Award.
