18th August 2017

ice age

They're one of the most successful all female Thrash/Metal bands of the last thirty years, in fact the Big Four - Metallica, Megadeth, Slayer, Anthrax - actually dedicated a whole Gothenburg Stadium show to them, but they've never released an album.

That is about to change however with the release of their debut opus, 'Breaking The Ice', which will be released on October 21st by GMR/PHD.

And today, the video for the title track, directed by Patric Ullaeus (In Flames, Hammerfall), is premiering right here on MetalTalk so break the ice with Ice Age and enjoy this...

The band, original members Sabrina Kihlstrand and Viktoria Larsson plus Linnea Landstedt on lead guitar and drummer André Holmquist (Manimal) collectively told us about 'Breaking The Ice'

"Its been a bloody long while! 'Breaking The Ice' is the title track from our upcoming debut album – we really hope you will enjoy this video as much as we did recording it. Thanks for watching!"

Ice Age were formed in Gothenburg, Sweden in January 1985 by Sabrina Kihlstrand and Pia Nyström and the first line-up was completed with Sabrina's sister, Helena, later replaced with bassist Viktoria Larsson, and Tina Strömberg behind the drums.

The band's early demos, 'Rock Solid', 'General Alert' (1987) and 'Untitled' (1988) saw their sound develop until 'Instant Justice' in 1989 saw them gain popularity, touring several countries and playing festivals including the Open Air in Lamone Switzerland as well as the UK's legendary Marquee Club.

Management problems and line-up changes were followed by the eventual implosion of the band in 1990 by which time they had sold thousands of copies of their demos.

Interest from fans worldwide remained strong however and in January 2015, Ice Age took to the stage for the first time in twenty-five years at the Gothenburg Sound festival to a rapturous welcome.

With five classic songs from the original demos re-recorded and five brand new songs, 'Breaking The Ice' is the album that many thought would never happen.

Look out for it's release on October 21st. Welcome to the Ice Age...

monsters of rock

Monsters Of Rock In Full Flight is stricylt limited to 300 worldwide and is available from 30th November but those ordering before 31st October will have their name published within a dedicated page in the book.

It's a deluxe 128 page hardback book in a metal flight case with a narrative by Jerry Bloom.

When promoter Paul Loasby put on the first Monsters Of Rock Festival in 1980 he could probably never have imagined it would become an annual event that would endure for so many years.

Featuring bands from the UK, Germany, Canada and USA, Loasby chose to stage the event at the Donington race circuit in the middle of England and it would prove to be a defining moment for many of the bands on the bill.

Not least for headliners Rainbow as it was the their last ever show to feature drum legend Cozy Powell. As it would happen it turned out to be the last for vocalist Graham Bonnet as well. For many of the other bands on the bill such as Scorpions, Judas Priest and Saxon, they were all on the ascendancy and would soon go on to even greater success.

Now in celebration of this first ever Monsters Of Rock Festival comes this hardback book full of glorious photos of the bands that took to the stage for that inaugural event including back stage shots. Most of these shots have not been published before which add to the uniqueness of this deluxe 128-page book which is packaged in its own flight case.

Also included are stories surrounding the event with tales and recollections from those who were there, including artists and fans alike. Each book will be signed by the author. The 300 will sell fast and definitely go on to become collector's items so order yours now right here to avoid disappointment.

NOW AEROSMITH FANS CAN HAVE THEIR NAME IN FUTURE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

aerosmith

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.

This unique item is presented in an aluminium flight case and will be published in late November. Earlybird subscribers who order by 31st October will have their name printed within a dedicated page in the book.
