GUNS N' ROSES NOT PLAYING DUBLIN
12th April 2017

Guns N' Roses have just completed the Asian leg of their 'Not In This Lifetime' tour and are now preparing to hit Europe in late May for a twenty date run that extends into mid-July, but fans travelling to the first gig of the European leg need to make sure they book a journey to the correct place.

The tour dates were announced in early December and all publicity materials clearly stated "Slane Castle, Dublin, IE" but Slane Castle is not in Dublin at all.

Slane Castle is in County Meath which is a full fifty-three kilometres from Dublin and a bus or train journey from Dublin Airport to the Castle takes just under two hours. It's sixty kilometres from central Dublin and more than two hours on public transport.

There is a huge rivarly between Dublin and Meath, which mainly stems from their GAA Gaelic football battles.

County Meath is known as The Royal County, so a lot of Meath people think they have one over the Dubliners, but Dublin is the capital city of Ireland, a fact which those from Dublin are fond of reminding residents of Meath.

Meath people are very proud of Slane Castle so it being referred to as Dublin apparently hits a nerve.

This is not the first time that there has been confusion over the Gunners European dates, as when the multi-platinum selling band played Milton Keynes Bowl on the 'Use Your Illusion' tour in 1993, Axl did refer to the venue as London, which to be fair is only a short helicopter ride away.

However, on the current tour, which features the reunion of Axl Rose with Slash and Duff McKagan, the band were greeted with boos as they came on stage after the concert announcer mistakenly shouted out "Sydney!", forgetting the band were actually playing a show in Melbourne.

This is actually a really easy error to make as a lengthy tour can cause geographical disorientation and plenty of frontmen have got a place name wrong before.

The Simpson's mocked this common occurrence in an episode with Spinal Tap when Derek Smalls addressed the crowd:

"Nobody rocks like... [looks on back of bass guitar where he has placed sticker with the name of city they are playing]... Springfield."

Then later in the same episode, David St Hubbins said:

"Goodnight Springton! There will be no encores!"

MetalTalk can happily report that Guns N' Roses, whose line-up is completed by guitarist Richard Fortus, drummer Frank Ferrer and keyboardists Dizzy Reed and Melissa Reese, are well back on form on the current 'Not In This Lifetime' tour, performing mammoth shows with tracks from all of their albums even including the most recent 'Chinese Democracy' opus.
