30th October 2017

Ex-Queensrÿche frontman Geoff Tate and his new band are coming back to the UK and Europe in January to undertake an extensive tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic album from which they take their name – 'Operation: Mindcrime'.

Initially stopping off in Sheffield, Pontypridd, London, Newcastle and Glasgow during January the band will play the 'Operation: Mindcrime' album in it's entirety before having a break during February and then returning to Europe, this time with Brazilian Metal band Angra in tow for an extensive run of shows including Lisbon, Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Warsaw, Berlin and London before finishing up in Russia with two dates in Moscow and St Petersburg.

Originally released by Queensrÿche in May 1988, 'Operation: Mindcrime' threw the band into the limelight and it has since become known as one of the best concept albums of all time, being certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as Gold a year after its release, and certified as Platinum in 1991.

During Queensrÿche's 1990 tour to promote their 'Empire' album, 'Operation: Mindcrime' was performed in its entirety and the performance featured video, animation and guest singer Pamela Moore as the character Sister Mary.

A rock opera, the story centres around Nikki, a recovering drug addict who becomes disillusioned with the corrupt society of his time and reluctantly becomes involved with a revolutionary group as an assassin of political leaders.

The original album spawned four singles, 'Breaking The Silence', 'Eyes Of A Stranger', 'Revolution Calling' and 'I Don't Believe In Love' in 1988/89 and a sequel, 'Operation: Mindcrime II' was released in April 2006 but failed to reach the heights of the original album.

After Tate left Tate Queensrÿche in 2012, he filed a lawsuit against the remaining members of the band and after a lengthy court battle, he was granted the exclusive performance rights to both 'Operation: Mindcrime' and 'Operation: Mindcrime II'.

Far from being put down by the off-stage events, Tate has re-invented himself with his Operation Mindcrime band mates going on to produce two albums, 'The Key' in 2015 and 'Resurrection' a year later, which are part of a concept album trilogy involving virtual currencies, internet banking and stock trading. The third and final instalment has yet to be released.

MONSTERS OF ROCK IN FULL FLIGHT SURE TO BECOME FUTURE COLLECTOR'S ITEM

monsters of rock

Monsters Of Rock In Full Flight is strictly limited to 300 worldwide and is available from 30th November but those ordering before 31st October will have their name published within a dedicated page in the book.

It's a deluxe 128 page hardback book in a metal flight case with a narrative by Jerry Bloom.

When promoter Paul Loasby put on the first Monsters Of Rock Festival in 1980 he could probably never have imagined it would become an annual event that would endure for so many years.

Featuring bands from the UK, Germany, Canada and USA, Loasby chose to stage the event at the Donington race circuit in the middle of England and it would prove to be a defining moment for many of the bands on the bill.

Not least for headliners Rainbow as it was the their last ever show to feature drum legend Cozy Powell. As it would happen it turned out to be the last for vocalist Graham Bonnet as well. For many of the other bands on the bill such as Scorpions, Judas Priest and Saxon, they were all on the ascendancy and would soon go on to even greater success.

Now in celebration of this first ever Monsters Of Rock Festival comes this hardback book full of glorious photos of the bands that took to the stage for that inaugural event including back stage shots. Most of these shots have not been published before which add to the uniqueness of this deluxe 128-page book which is packaged in its own flight case.

Also included are stories surrounding the event with tales and recollections from those who were there, including artists and fans alike. Each book will be signed by the author. The 300 will sell fast and definitely go on to become collector's items so order yours now right here to avoid disappointment.
