GEOFF TATE’S OPERATION MINDCRIME CONTINUE THEIR RESURRECTION WITH 2018 UK TOUR

Ex-Queensrÿche frontman Geoff Tate and his new band are coming back to the UK and Europe in January to undertake an extensive tour to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the classic album from which they take their name – ‘Operation: Mindcrime’.

Initially stopping off in Sheffield, Pontypridd, London, Newcastle and Glasgow during January the band will play the ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ album in it’s entirety before having a break during February and then returning to Europe, this time with Brazilian Metal band Angra in tow for an extensive run of shows including Lisbon, Madrid, Rome, Vienna, Warsaw, Berlin and London before finishing up in Russia with two dates in Moscow and St Petersburg.

Originally released by Queensrÿche in May 1988, ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ threw the band into the limelight and it has since become known as one of the best concept albums of all time, being certified by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) as Gold a year after its release, and certified as Platinum in 1991.

During Queensrÿche’s 1990 tour to promote their ‘Empire’ album, ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ was performed in its entirety and the performance featured video, animation and guest singer Pamela Moore as the character Sister Mary.

A rock opera, the story centres around Nikki, a recovering drug addict who becomes disillusioned with the corrupt society of his time and reluctantly becomes involved with a revolutionary group as an assassin of political leaders.

The original album spawned four singles, ‘Breaking The Silence’, ‘Eyes Of A Stranger’, ‘Revolution Calling’ and ‘I Don’t Believe In Love’ in 1988/89 and a sequel, ‘Operation: Mindcrime II’ was released in April 2006 but failed to reach the heights of the original album.

After Tate left Tate Queensrÿche in 2012, he filed a lawsuit against the remaining members of the band and after a lengthy court battle, he was granted the exclusive performance rights to both ‘Operation: Mindcrime’ and ‘Operation: Mindcrime II’.

Far from being put down by the off-stage events, Tate has re-invented himself with his Operation Mindcrime band mates going on to produce two albums, ‘The Key’ in 2015 and ‘Resurrection’ a year later, which are part of a concept album trilogy involving virtual currencies, internet banking and stock trading. The third and final instalment has yet to be released.
