So as Bloodstock 2017 drew to a close, a new record was set.

Freelance photographer Will Tudor, shooting Bloodstock for MetalTalk last weekend, set out to beat Sean Larkin's previous best of most band pictures from the whole festival and had the new record in the bag by late Saturday.

Will himself takes up the story:

"Let me explain; this isn't really any kind of official thing. A few years back, as a group we decided to challenge ourselves, just to see how many bands we could shoot on our own.

"For years it's been Sean Larkin who's just made everyone else look silly, so when this year rolled around I kinda thought it would be fun to take his record of eighty-eight bands in one weekend and rip it to shreds.

"You see, being a photographer at a festival can often be the loneliest job in the world. Everyone gets to see your work, but you don't really get to spend a lot of time with friends and family, bands and fans so you have to keep your mind occupied. There can be gaps between bands and you have to fill your time or you'll get bored or tired so we keep moving.

"Sean and I chatted before this year's BOA and agreed that ninety-three to ninety-five was achievable. Little did I know that that wouldn't even come close. So, with head down and mission in mind, I set out to shoot as many as I could.

"The bands deserve it. They've worked hard to get to play here and the least I as a photographer can do is show up, take some images and spend a little of my time watching and listening. It's not a big deal really, just a bit of fun but our competitive nature is what it is and Sean is already plotting taking this record away from me next year.

"I hope he, or someone else, can. It's hard work, it's a challenge, but boy, did my weekend fly by."

MetalTalk's other photographer, John Inglis, had no chance of competing with Will for this record as he was designated main stage photographer and you can see his work, along wth Will's, in our collection of Bloodstock 2017 articles which are indexed at the bottom of this page.

We'll be back next year and looking to create new records, as well as take old ones down, in our quest to deliver the best possible coverage of Britain's best Heavy Metal festival.

Gojira and Nightwish have already been announced as two of the four headliners for next year and we're expecting more line-up announcements in the not-too-distant. Early bird tickets for Bloodstock 2018 are now on sale. Click here to get yours.
