Huge news from Absolva this evening - bass player Dan Bate has left the band and Iced Earth bassist Luke Appleton has rejoined his brother to play the forthcoming Absolva dates.

That means that the original Fury UK line-up has reunited as Absolva but this move appears not to be a permanent one as the band are advertising for a full-time replacement.

Luke is a permanent fixture in Iced Earth but the band are off the road for the rest of the year at least as mainman Jon Schaffer recovers from neck surgery.

Absolva put out a statement which you can read in full below.

"With sincere regret we have to announce that Dan Bate has left Absolva with immediate effect. This situation had not been anticipated but has been discussed in detail & sadly we've accepted Dan's explanation that he feels unable to commit himself 100% to the band going forward & therefore has no choice but to reluctantly give up his position as bassist.

"Although we're more than a little shocked at this turn of events, the situation has been entirely amicable & we have nothing but good to say about Dan & his period with the band. The past 2 years have seen him working hard, playing some incredible shows & we've had many laughs together where his wit & humour have been especially welcome during long hours on the road. In this period he's grown significantly as a musician. We're very sad to see him depart & we thank him wholeheartedly for all his contribution to the music & work of Absolva. We wish Dan every success & good fortune with all that he does in future.

"Regarding the future for Absolva, it'll come as no surprise to many of you that Luke Appleton will be stepping in as bassist on the forthcoming tour dates both in Scotland & in Europe. Anyone interested in an audition for the full-time position as bassist should email

"Following the departure of bassist Dan Bate, the FURY UK line-up is reunited to complete ABSOLVA's European Tour dates up to the end of October 2014. For Chris, Martin & Luke to be onstage together again as a 3 piece is an unexpected but fantastic opportunity & the guys are looking forward to putting together the setlist for the tour.

"The tour includes the 2 shows in Scotland at the end of August, plus the shows in mainland Europe between 5th September & 25th October. This line-up will also be playing ABSOLVA's tour dates as BLAZE BAYLEY's band once Dan Bate has signed off with his final show in Crete this weekend.

"As BABYLON FIRE sadly had to withdraw as special guests on the Absolva European Tour, we're delighted to say that MOTHERLOAD will join the tour as special guests in Arras, Waldbronn, Namur, Amsterdam, Eindhoven & Emmen. Meanwhile, as already planned, special guests in Scotland, Nijmegen & Roeselare will be DIE NO MORE.

"At the Roeselare show Belgium's WIZZ ACOUSTIC & ETERNAL BREATH will also be playing. Special guests on the remaining dates will be looked at during the forthcoming week & further announcements made."

Here's a fabulous Aerosmith pictorial document as seen through the lens of famed British photographer Tony Mottram. Tony photographed the band over many years for various magazines and now has a monthly column here on MetalTalk.

As was often the case, only one photo ever got published and in the fast moving world of weekly magazines sometimes entire sessions would be done and left undeveloped.

Tony started shooting Aerosmith from towards the end of the period with Jimmy Crespo and Rick Dufay and onwards through the return of original members Joe Perry and Brad Whitford that resulted in the albums 'Done With Mirrors', 'Permanent Vacation' and 'Pump'.

As well as shooting the band several times in England, this collection includes images from a session at the band's rehearsal room in Boston. Littered throughout is a mixture of live and off stage photos including a selection of photos taken at London's famous Marquee club when they were joined on stage by Jimmy Page.

This limited edition hardback book, presented in a flight case and printed on silk paper, is an opportunity to own a unique selection of photos, most of which have never seen the light of day before.

This unique item is presented in an aluminium flight case and will be published in late November. Earlybird subscribers who order by 31st October will have their name printed within a dedicated page in the book.
