JOHNNY ROTTEN AND INCUBUS'S BRANDON BOYD ARE CAST FOR 'JESUS CHRIST SUPERSTAR' TOUR 6 April 2014
The classic rock musical theatre piece 'Jesus Christ Superstar' will tour North America for a 51 city arena tour in June 2014. It was announced that The Sex Pistol's Johnny Rotten (John Lydon) and Incubus's Brandon Boyd will take starring roles.
Rotten will play King Herod and Boyd will play Judas Iscariot in the latest incarnation of the Andrew Lloyd Webber/ Tim Rice penned musical.
The original concept album was produced in 1970 when Deep Purple's Ian Gillan played the role of Jesus. The piece has been in almost constant production somewhere in the world ever since.

For this production, the title role will be played by Ben Forster, who has been the lead in the UK and Australia versions since 2012.
Tim Rice said "We are delighted and grateful that enthusiasm for Superstar has been maintained over the years and this new production presents the work in its most powerful format - as a true rock experience."
Rolling Stone magazine reported that at the press conference John Lydon threw two bananas at the journalists and attempted to interrupt proceedings to start a Q and A session. When producer Michael Cohl was asked about his casting he stated that "he is a proven performer of decades of success and people love him, so it's different."
