Status Quo have announced that their new drummer is Leon Cave, who most recently played with Status Quo stalwart Francis Rossi on his solo tour in 2011.

Cave replaces Matthew Letley who left after the bands London O2 Arena show in December 2012, only to briefly return to the drum stool in April/May 2012 as The Quo toured Australia, New Zealand and Mexico.

Cave, who was officially announced this afternoon, has been in rehearsal with the band over recent weeks, and will play his debut show on Saturday 25th May (tomorrow) at the Wolkenkratzer Festival in Frankfurt, Germany.

The 34 year old from London is a versatile and in-demand multi-instrumentalist who also plays guitar and bass. Apart from working in the Francis Rossi Band, he has toured extensively worldwide and recorded with a wide range of artists and producers including Ska Wars, Duncan Millar, The A List and Franz Ferdinand.

Cave commented on his appointment: "I've had to keep this under wraps for a while, but it's been officially announced and I'm happy to tell you that I am now the drummer for Rock legends Status Quo."
