Singer Ozzy Osbourne and bassist Geezer Butler are currently working with producer Rick Rubin at Shangri La Studio's in Malibu on their first recording project together in 34 years. Tony Iommi has already recorded all his guitar parts earlier in the UK. Fifteen songs have been written for the CD, with twelve making the final cut and the additional three serving as bonus tracks for different special editions. Sabbath have one song title confirmed which is 'God Is Dead'.
According to SiriusXM Liquid Metal DJ Jose Mangin, Ozzy Osbourne spoke to Tony Iommi recently and the singer said: "He is in good spirits and recovery is coming along very well from his cancer scare earlier this year."
As for how Rubin influenced the band's approach to writing together again, Butler explained: "He sat us down, put the first album on and said 'listen to this', imagine it's 1969, you've just done that, what would you do next?"
Tony Iommi added: "It's taken on the flavour of the old stuff in the way we put things together, but with a different look on it."
Once again Black Sabbath drummer Bill Ward will not be part of the Australian/Japan dates nor will he partake in any recording of the album, due to a contractual dispute. Although it's not officially announced it's likely that Tommy Clufetos will perform drumming duties once again.
Since Tony Iommi was diagnosed with lymphoma cancer Black Sabbath have only performed three shows with an intimate show in Birmingham, UK and headlining sets at the Download Festival UK and at Lollapalouza in the US.
