||SANGUINE TO SUPPORT MEGADETH IN LONDON ON JUNE 12th
7th June 2012
By the time 2012 is at its mid-point, Sanguine will have stacked up more achievements than most Heavy Metal hopefuls would be content to count in a full year. February alone not only saw the Exeter foursome's own self-titled debut album released to a chorus of press praise, but witnessed force-of-nature frontwoman Tarin Kerrey guest on the first record from Adrian Smith (Iron Maiden) and Mikee Goodman (SikTh) project Primal Rock Rebellion - and found Kerrey and guitarist Nick Magee flying out to Gothenburg for a writing session with In Flames!
As varied and impressive as the year's studio credits so far, is the list of live shows Sanguine are set to have beneath their belts before June is at an end. Starting the month in Ibiza, when they played the annual Hard Rock Hell Road Trip on June 4th, the band then head to Castle Donington for an appearance on Download Festival's Jagermeister stage on June 10th, and two days later open for Megadeth at London's 1,100 capacity Electric Ballroom on June 12th.

Amongst those already able to attest to Sanguine's status as a formidable live act will be the two billed headline acts who have to date refused to follow them onstage. For the uninitiated however, Kerrey, Magee, Tom Sherwood (bass) and Matt Feld (drums) are offering a taste of their talents sans studio trickery on a FREE download-only 'Live EP'. Set to be made available exclusively at the band's own website from June 18th, the five-track release will serve as a souvenir for festival-goers impressed by their Hard Rock Hell and Download performances.
With the exception of lead track 'Simplify' (a studio album highlight, which in keeping with the EP's theme is accompanied by a video depicting the live show in full flow), all of the recordings are previously unreleased, and capture the band either live onstage or live in the studio. A raw rendering of another album track 'Bangkok Nights' provides a point of comparison for the fresh levels of brutality Sanguine's repertoire can reach when unleashed in a no-holds-barred live setting, yet it becomes obvious on a trio of brand new numbers that aural oppression isn't all they're capable of when let out of the studio.
'Days Outnumbered' demonstrates Kerrey can carry a tune as competently as she can deliver fear-striking screams and, along with spotlight-moment for Magee's guitar grooves 'Paradise', highlights the knack for solid hooks which cuts through even Sanguine's heaviest material. Meanwhile, 'From Home''s eerie, minimal arrangement of vocals, guitar and percussion presents no place to hide - so proving the Metallers' true mettle as musicians, and making them seem not such a strange selection for the acoustic-only Jager stage at Download, after all.
