KING 810 LEAVE BLOODSTOCK GRANDE MORT AS MALUM SKY PLAY THE GIG OF THEIR LIVES
Bloodstock Open Air 2017, Saturday
12th August 2017 Pictures: John Inglis and Will Tudor
Bloodstock Saturday started with a bang as Fallujah opened proceedings on the Ronnie James Dio stage with such ferocity that there was some collateral damage over at the Motley Brew tea stall, as the refreshing beverages were forced from their mugs due to the intensity. There's no messing about here.

Blind River opened up the Sophie stage bringing groove to the proceedings and getting the crowd going, due in no small part to the skills of frontman Harry Armstrong. This is a man who knows how to command a stage, and command it he did.

Winterfylleth did a monumental soundcheck before the start but had no trouble winning back the audience with their moody and mysterious mash-up of monumental Metal. These guys know how to create an atmosphere, albeit one that might scare the cat.

King 810, appearing as a trio for the first time due to guitarist Andrew Beal being held on weapons charges, brutalised Bloodstock with one of the most crushing displays of intensity ever seen on English soil.
Possibly the most anticipated band of the weekend due to their brushes with real-life extreme violence and their recent creation of a high class, arty pornographic video as their latest promo, King 810 were all that they promised to be and more.

Their domination of the stage, despite being a man down, was an impressive sight to behold and if these boys can stay out of jail they will go on to headline Download and Wacken.

Havok were another highlight, bass player Nick Schendzielos especially keeping the energy high and they looked as happy as hell to be here

Over at the New Blood stage the bands continue to impress including Ward XVI and Titan Breed, and especially Raised By Owls who garnered a crowd ten deep outside the tent with their very British brand of extreme.

A band that made a lot of new friends are Welsh prog Metallers Malum Sky who also packed out the tent, taking the opportunity to school the crowd in how to do a "Hell Yeah!" properly. The band showcased their forthcoming second EP, 'Eye Above', and their blend of beauty and darkness really hit the spot with the Bloodstock faithful.

The band spoke to us afterwards, saying this was the best gig of their life to date. Vocalist Ben Honebone told us:
"We were slightly concerned when we went on as to how we would be received in the tent, but that was awesome, especially as the weather was sunny. We will be gigging throughout the UK to the end of the year then after the EP is out will announce many more."
The first of next year's headliners will be announced from the main stage at 8.15pm this evening.
