The name Syteria might not be instantly familiar to you but you might know leading light and guitarist Jackie Chambers from her "day job" as guitarist in British rock legends Girlschool. If being a member of Girlschool wasn't enough Jackie started her side project, Syteria, with all the gusto you'd expect from someone who has been recording since 1980 and still has the drive of those early days.

Jackie was born in Bradford and grew up in Pudsey, Leeds where she started playing guitar at the age of 17 in various punk bands before moving down to London where she joined a signed band called Bleech. It was in the mid-nineties that Jackie formed an all girl band called Virago who had a couple of TV appearances and played with them doing mainly local gigs in London. Then in 1995 she placed an advert in a music paper to which Kim McAuliffe from Girlschool answered as she wanted to do a side project.

The pair hung out and wrote a few songs together, becoming good friends with the rest of the band too. It was then that the late Kelly Johnson decided to leave Girlschool opening the way for Jackie to fill the vacant role, after turning down the position at first.

Since joining the band, Girschool have recorded albums such as 'Not That Innocent', 'Believe', 'Legacy', 'Hit And Run Revisited' and let's not forget the latest album, 'Guilty As Sin'. She's also recognised and respected enough to have recorded with Motörhead legends Lemmy, Phil Campbell and Fast Eddie Clarke as well as Twisted Sister, Neil Murray (Black Sabbath/Whitesnake) and Ronnie James Dio.

The last sixteen years have been spent playing headline and support gigs with various rock artists such as Motörhead, Saxon, Alice Cooper and Dio playing festivals all over the world including Wacken, Hellfest, Sweden Rock and Hard Rock Hell before embarking on the Syteria project.

Along with vocalist Julia Calvo, Keira Kenworthy on bass guitar and featuring her drummer and father Mike Kenworthy (from NWOBHM legends Raven) filling in at the last minute, Jackie has worked hard on 'Wake Up', which is essentially a joyous three track EP that bodes well for the future of this outfit.

Kicking off with 'Sheepie', it's Mike Kenworthy who holds the drum beat true and steady whilst the guitar solo from Jackie may be on the short side but it totally rocks. Add in a catchy chorus and the track motors along at a fair pace and is enough to grab your attention and keep you listening.

'When I Get Out Of High School' follows which once again sees Mike Kenworthy coming into his own once again with a metronomic drumming style. The guitar has a punky feel to it and this style is supplemented by the boisterous chorus. Sure, the vocals are a bit further back in the mix than some of the tracks, but it's another fine track nonetheless.

The final offering is 'Reflection' which has another great guitar from Jackie in the intro before the track turns into the slowest paced number of the trio. Calvo really showcases her talents here whilst Mike Kenworthy once again keeps the pace solid at the back. The backing vocals give the track a bit more depth, but again it's a polished track and brings to an end a great EP.

With Syteria's gig calendar filling up nicely, as well as Girlschool commitments also set up for the latter half of the year Jackie is hoping they put time away for the writing and recording of any follow up material to caplitalise on a fine debut.
