careless coalition

Careless formed in the early 80s as a result of two friends studying together at Scranton College, Pennsylvania. James Collins (drums/vocals) and Walt Kosar (guitar) were both music majors and became friends. It was only a matter of time before the two combined forces and enlisted the talent of Nolan Ayres (bass) a school friend of Walt, and so the coalition formed.

It wasn't long before they started writing and recording original music together. They were all fans of bands such as Rush and Iron Maiden whose influences were present in the writing. Sadly for a variety of reasons the band disbanded and went their separate ways after only writing a handful of songs together.

In 2008 something drew them back together and is if no time had passed at all they started working on the old songs as well as supplementing them with new material to form what is now 'Coalition'.

'Coalition' is an offering that will meet the expectations of anybody that is a fan of good melodic hard-rock, and also like that Metal feel to an album. Built of songs that show us just how talented these men are, it's an album that has been thirty years in the making; a work full of experimentation that has brought something very different to this recording.

The album is mainly a collection of very classic sounding songs that show us just how powerful the band are as a group, but also how powerful Collins' vocals are as well as his drumming. Collins is an incredibly talented drummer but vocally his voice also soars beyond the studio in which it was recorded.

The guitar work on the first instrumental track 'As Time Passes' is as good as the work of some of the most accomplished guitarists I have heard. Walt Kosac brings blistering riffs and solos to the mix whilst Nolan has a very melodic, but heavy bass style. His melodic side is featured more on the second instrumental track 'Between The Mayhem' and shows just why he got the job all those years ago.

Collins, Kosac and Ayres together are a faultless force of nature. If you love melodic, hard rock with that all important aspect of Metal then you are going to want to listen to this album. So what are you waiting for? Come join the Careless Coalition!
