As teenagers your must have LP's would include 'Machine Head' and 'Made In Japan' by Deep Purple. My motivations were. apart from the music, the graphics and photography and who shot the band, where and how!
I managed to blag a 'Made In Japan' promo poster from my local record shop in Harlow, Essex, which was attached to my bedroom wall for years.
The first time I came in contact with Jon Lord was on the Thames while us students were on a narrowboat holiday and we spotted the Purple keyboard meastro on his motor launch. To the chants of "Oi, Oi, Lordy", he saluted us from his poop deck!
Then years later during my career as a photographer for Sounds, I shot the Knebworth Fayre and I am proud of this 200mm lens shot from way back in the crowd or lighting rig or desk without tripod and no camera shake!
Then on 9.11.84 Polygram Records hired me to shoot the presentation of the Gold disc for 'Perfect Stangers' at Heathrow Airport to a rather jetlagged group of Purples straight off a Pan Am flight! The glamour of Rock n' Roll.
And here today is my vinyl LP copy of 'Made In Japan' for the princely sum of £3.25p!
