I love the manic mayhem that COC have consistently belted out over the years and I'm delighted to say this new eponymous album is proving no exception, whipping up all their best qualities into an utter frenzy and body slamming it back down in fabulous style.

corrosion of conformity

Recorded at Dave Grohl's Studio in California with long time collaborator John Custer producing and John Lousteau (Foo Fighters) on the mix, 'Corrosion Of Conformity' is as fine and twisted as you would expect from the three original COC boys, Weatherman, Dean and Mullin. Dark, raw and brash, it's a riproaring blend of doom punk Metal with a touch of exquisite blues to soften the bludgeoning, and just a hint of that famous southern wit.

Opening track 'Psychic Vampire' kicks off in true COC style, thumping drums and tempo switches keeping the pulses and pace shifting, whilst 'River Of Stone' riffs and rocks along, Dean's vocals the perfect fit for this rollercoaster number. 'Leeches' screams headlong into some blistering motorpunk before we take a short sweet breath for 'El Lamento De Las Cabras', a blues tinged instrumental with some wonderfully mournful guitars, a track as disarming as it is delightful.

Cranking up the pace, we smash through the relentless 'Your Tomorrow' before the aptly titled monster 'The Doom' pounds out, the wicked wild child of Sabbath and Punk and an absolute stomper of a track. 'The Moneychangers' kicks it up nicely again, and then we move in to 'Newness' a doom grunge number that slithers and snakes along, vocals wrapping themselves around the music as a tight second skin, awesome stuff.

corrosion of conformity

'What We Become' is a full on screamer and absolutely classic COC, 'Rat City' hammers down a freight train of mashed up, ripping guitars on a tidal wave of punk leading us into final track, the twisting 'Time Of Trials'.

Bristling with energy, this is a big fat dirty beast of an album that pulls no punches and kowtows to no one, and is currently vying to be my favourite COC album to date. A stormer from start to finish!

'Corrosion Of Conformity' is available on standard CD, Deluxe Digipak and 2 exclusive vinyl formats - the European configuration is confirmed as a double 180-gram clear vinyl, the American version will feature a single 180-gram black and white splatter vinyl with a limited 7inch single, both versions will feature a gatefold sleeve. Both the deluxe digipak are set to include two additional tracks.
