BEST METAL MEMORY: Getaway Festival with Corrosion Of Conformity

GIG: Rob Zombie, Download

ALBUM: No Sky Today 'No Sky Today' (Wayne Findlay from MSG's band)

BAND: Ghost

ROB ZOMBIE was the obvious choice for best gig. Having seen his monstrously Metal show at Download and Hellfest he was absolutely superb, one hell of a showman and his music is still the finest on the scene today. Long may the 'Superbeast' reign!

My best memory was at the Getaway Festival in Gavle, Sweden, although in patches - it's a tiny bit blurry. The happy consequence of being looked after by the really lovely boys of CORROSION OF CONFORMITY, all of whom like a drop of beer, and it would have been mighty rude to refuse their generous invitation to join in a beverage or two! Utterly charming chaps all, they played a blinding show of Metal mayhem and that, combined with their company, gave me one of the most fun days I had all year.

The album choice was far more difficult, bearing in mind all the big releases this year, but I still remember the huge buzz I got hearing NO SKY TODAY for the first time, the debut album from Wayne Findlay's new band, and for that reason (and the fact it's a stunning album that I just don't get tired of hearing), I'm giving my Album of the Year to them.

Band of the year is without doubt the mighty GHOST (below). I simply can't stop playing 'Opus Eponymous', and their live shows are just awesome, brilliant and bonkers in equal measures. Besides, their cover of 'Here Comes The Sun' has to be the best cover ever!!

Merry Crimble & Metal craziness to one and all! xx J
