This week sees the rare chance to see multi-award winning multi instrumentalist Steve Vai play some solo gigs around the UK.
Vai began playing guitar in 1973, at the age of 13 and famously took guitar lessons from guitarist Joe Satriani. His first professional guitar job was playing guitar overdubs on Frank Zappa's 'You Are What You Is' album before becoming a fully fledged band member and going on his first tour with Zappa in the autumn of 1980.
Vai's next big job was working with David Lee Roth in 1985. Roth had at the time recently departed from Van Halen, and Vai worked with him on the 'Eat 'Em And Smile' album and it's follow-up, 'Skyscraper'.

After the tour to support the 'Skyscraper' album Vai left the band and teamed up with Whitesnake where he replaced Vivian Campbell. Vai played all the guitar parts on the 'Slip Of The Tongue' album as well as performing live with the subsequent World Tour which included a headline appearance at the Monsters of Rock Festival at Castle Donington in August 1990.
Vai has also released a number of critically acclaimed solo albums including 1990s 'Passion And Warfare', 'Sex And Religion' as well as 'The Story Of Light' - his first release since 2005.
