Beholder front man - Simon Hall - throws pearls of wisdom exclusively to MetalTalk.net and offers an insight into the ongoing Beholder 'Edge Of Insanity' Tour which is tearing up and down the UK throughout the whole of September.

Day 1 – Birmingham – The Roadhouse

Ahhhh let The Edge of Insanity begin!!

The Beholder Tour started in earnest with a royal ear bending in the home of Metal - Birmingham!!

Article continues below...

Tours usually start in the same way - sorting through mountains of tangled cables, repairing broken drum skins and sifting through the newly acquired merchandise, but for all the head scratching its great to be back!!

Support acts Haerken and Morgue Orgy did themselves (and breaking British Metal) proud as they offered up both doom laden medieval metal and jazz hand extreme noise - but now its show time.

"This is a celebration of British Heavy Fuckin Metallllll !!!"  The watch words for the tour ring out and by the time we'd ripped through the ninety minute set the words were engrained, agreed and understood.

Birmingham you set the standards that will be difficult to beat.

Day 2 – Nottingham - The Central Music Venue

OK, so on first glance the Central Music Venue may not be the biggest venue in the world, but once we'd balanced out the guitar stacks on folded cardboard (due to the wobbliest of stages) and we'd crammed Chris's excessive drum kit in the remaining space - its time to crank out the sound check.

"FUCK ME THATS LOUD!!"

The low ceiling and room dynamics had the fixtures and fittings rattling, along with with several sets of fillings and I'm pretty sure I caught the sound engineer weeping behind his desk.

A couple of interviews prior to the show courtesy of New Rock Music and Metal Gods TV - its always good to hook up with true supporters of the scene.

Showtime and for some reason I went on a bit of a rant about his holiness the Pope! Had to laugh at the open mouthed looks I was getting as if to say "can he really say that?" - well give me a mic and a PA and I guess I can. Priceless!!

Day 3 – Nuneaton – Queens Hall

The day starts with a chuckle as we read the first of the tour reviews and Fungus is described as a "Swarthy Skinned Apache" and Chris is a "Tarmac worker on piece work!"

Needless to say this was a full excuse for a full-on band piss-take – until I read a little further down..........

"If Brian Blessed fronted a metal band he'd sound like this!!" Enter the cries of Gordons Alive!!!

Anywhoooo  - The Queens Hall has got to be one of the best medium sized venues in the UK as it offers the lot and tonight is a show we've been looking forward to since the booking was announced.  And to top things off we've only gone and sold out the show – GET IN!!!

Yet again the show was filmed (as is the rest of the tour) but i've gotta resist jumping into the pit while ripping into a track – not only did I get lumped knocks out of me – but it was all caught on film with the crew claiming I looked like a fat rag doll!!

Charming.  Needless to say I think I'm gonna feel this in the morning.

Day 4 – Wellingborough – The Horseshoe

OMG! I cant fuckin move!! Feel like I've done ten rounds with a cave troll – lesson learnt methinks.

"Strong Coffee and Ibuprofen STAT"

A very leisurely load in was followed by support act (Vahalla) working their socks off to entertain what is turning out to be a pretty tough crowd.

But I do love a challenge.

"Get Up Ya Lazy Fuckers!" The rally cry works a treat and, from the get go, all reserved inhibitions are set aside as the crowd end up moshing and launching beer skywards by the end of the first song. Lol

Couple of days off tomorrow and Tuesday then onto Manchester, Glasgow and a whole lot more...
