Polish Death/Thrash legends Vader return with their latest EP, 'Thy Messenger', the latest addition to an impressive discography of over fifty releases in a thirty-plus years career, an impressive output made more so by the consistent quality maintained over the last ten years. They are at the top of their game and determined to stay there.

'Thy Messenger' is five tracks spanning a compact thirteen-and-a-half minutes, but what a thirteen-and-a-half minutes it is! You get three new tracks including the lyrically profound 'Grand Deceiver', an excellent re-recording of the title track of their 2000 'Litany' album and a superb cover of Judas Priest's 'Steeler', and as much as I adore the Vader original material I also look forward immensely to their covers. NO ONE covers quite like Vader and this is easily as good as the original.

They've certainly done a great song the justice it deserves, it really packs a punch and I'm sure the Priest boys would agree about how good it sounds.

Looking at the other tracks, I can't find flaw in them either. The whole EP is end-to-end hard driving, up-tempo Thrash laced Death Metal, unrelenting, with densely packed, rapidly delivered, precision riffing, soaring, face searing shredding, an unforgiving drum onslaught, as it would need to be, and Piotr's ruggedly rasping vocal delivery that has excellent clarity to the content delivery as always, completing the package. You'll just want to keep listening to this over and over, as I did!

1. Grand Deceiver
2. Litany
3. Emptiness
4. Despair
5. Steeler

'Thy Messenger' is a seriously exciting listen and available from Nuclear Blast Records as a CD, 12" limited edition coloured vinyl or digital download from 31st May.
